Graphic Design Summer Internship with Youth Unlimited (Paid position)

Classification                     30-40 hours/week

Location                               Surrey and/or Vancouver

# of positions                    Three internship spots available, this one is dedicated to graphic design

Funding                               Funding for these positions is made possible thanks to the Canadian government. Formerly the Summer Students grant, these paid internships are no longer limited to students, but available to anyone 30 or under.

Compensation                  The grant covers minimum wage; for experienced candidates a higher salary may be possible                

Youth Unlimited (YU) in Greater Vancouver is a faith-based, grass-roots, pioneering organization that’s historically been run by innovative outreach workers passionate about reaching kids on the margins. You would be a member of the newly-formed marketing team that is taking YU to the next level of visibility and communication. We are dedicated to building tools and designing systems that improve the marketing and fundraising of our charity so our incredible youth workers can be appropriately resourced to reach out and pull more kids back from falling through the cracks.

As a team, we are responsible for the marketing, advertising, social media and public relations campaigns and activities both internal and external.  As an intern, you will participate in activities related to some, if not all, the areas. There is so much to be done; we are looking for support in a myriad of different areas.

About the position

Youth Unlimited constantly contracts design work externally, and would benefit from an in-house designer over the summer. You would be one of three summer interns. The largest portion of your time would be spent on graphic design-related projects (namely print and digital but could extend to banners and vehicles), but you will also be required to support the other areas of the communciations internship.

Job responsibilities

Your primary responsibility will be graphic design and everything that that encompasses. Depending on your skills and YU work needs, you will support the other interns in one or more of the following:

  • Support with event-planning for YU’s Fall Fundraisers
  • Grant-writing
  • Research + special reports
  • Story-writing
  • Some program support
  • Website content writing
  • Fundraising activities support
  • Media relations
  • Database support
  • Other duties as required

If the incumbent has experience in the following, then a wider variety of assignments would be available:

  • Web programming
  • Web design
  • Analytics
  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Social Media
  • Tactical writing or story-telling


  • These jobs are provided thanks to a grant from the Canadian government’s summer jobs program. As such, this role is restricted to people 30 and under
  • Must have a university degree, be enrolled in university, or have 2-3 years of experience

Candidates must have:

  • Excellent written and verbal commination
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, integrity, reliability and are a team player
  • A positive attitude
  • A teachable spirit and willingness to learn
  • Access to a vehicle would be extremely helpful

In addition to graphic design experience, preference will be shown to candidates who have skill in one or more of the following:

  • Web programming
  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Social media
  • Marketing
  • Experience with the media

*You will work alongside the other summer intern, working at times collaboratively and at times independently.

*You will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications but will assisted by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
