Job Title Web Specialist, YU Marketing and Communications Internship

Funding Funding for these positions is made possible thanks to the Canadian government. Formerly the Summer Students grant, these paid internships are no longer limited to students, but available to anyone 30 or under.
Compensation The grant covers minimum wage; for experienced candidates a higher salary may be possible
Youth Unlimited (YU) in Greater Vancouver is a faith-based, grass-roots, pioneering organization that’s historically been run by innovative outreach workers passionate about reaching kids on the margins. You would be a member of the newly-formed marketing team that is taking YU to the next level of visibility and communication. We are dedicated to building tools and designing systems that improve the marketing and fundraising of our charity so our incredible youth workers can be appropriately resourced to reach out and pull more kids back from falling through the cracks.
As a team, we are responsible for the marketing, advertising, social media and public relations campaigns and activities both internal and external. As an intern, you will participate in activities related to some, if not all, the areas. There is so much to be done; we are looking for support in a myriad of different areas.
About the position
Youth Unlimited is in need of web expertise—from programming to web design, to further backend support. Our charity has not yet had anyone in-house with this kind of experience, so it’s an opportunity to help the charity strengthen its web presence while building your own skills. You will be one of three summer interns. Your main focus would be web-related, but you will likely add support to other activities engaged in by the other interns.
- Your primary responsibility is most everything web related.
- Web programming experience is highly coveted for this positon
- Web design
*Once that is complete, depending on your skills and work needs you might join the other interns in one or more of the following:
- Support with event-planning for YU’s Fall Fundraisers
- Research + special reports
- Some program support
- Website content writing
- Fundraising activities support
- Media relations
- Database support
- Other duties as required
If the incumbent has experience in the following, then a wider variety of assignments would be available:
- Graphic design
- Social Media
- Tactical writing or story-telling
- These jobs are provided thanks to a grant from the Canadian government’s summer jobs program. As such, this role is restricted to people 30 and under
- Must have a university degree, be enrolled in university, or have 2-3 years of experience
Candidates must have:
- Excellent written and verbal commination
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, integrity, reliability and are a team player
- A positive attitude
- A teachable spirit and willingness to learn
- Access to a vehicle would be extremely helpful
In addition to web-related experience, preference will be shown to candidates who have skill in one or more of the following:
- Graphic design
- Social media
- Experience with the media
*You will work alongside the other summer intern, working at times collaboratively and at times independently.
*You will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications but will assisted by the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
