Born and raised on Vancouver’s North Shore, Karis spent her university days in Halifax getting her degree in International Development at Dalhousie University. This is where she first found her passion for social justice. Her hope is to see positive change happen through young people all over the globe as they gain new perspectives, become inspired and empowered, and recognize their own potential to be a positive force in the world.
This passion is what drew Karis to Youth Unlimited. As program coordinator for The Elevation Project—Youth Unlimited’s partnership with YFC Rwanda – Karis coordinates both a sponsorship program with Kigali Christian School in Rwanda, and a unique leadership development program for youth in Vancouver exploring issues of poverty and social justice. As part of the program, these teams of youth travel to Rwanda to work alongside Rwandan young leaders, creating a special opportunity for collaborative, cross-cultural learning and relationships.
Karis also recently stepped in as the Surrey Area Administrator for YU, facilitating back-end admin work so the Surrey team can more efficiently and effectively work directly with youth. Karis now lives in East Vancouver, where you can usually find her at a neighbourhood coffee shop.
Together we can transform the world our youth live in—but we can’t do it without you.Take Action
