Leia Newland was pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology when she began volunteering at a local drop in centre and shelter for at-risk youth. It was here that she realized she had a particular gift for working with young people. While her long-term goals include counseling and hopefully clinical psychology, she knew she would remain focused on this age group and demographic.
Upon moving to Vancouver, Leia recognized that many of the devastating social patterns she studied in University had a clear impact on the Youth of East Vancouver. When she heard that Youth Unlimited had a program called Street Life, whose goal is to not only help youth to survive, but thrive, she had to work there.
It was just a happy bonus that within the organization of Youth Unlimited she found support and community.
Together we can transform the world our youth live in—but we can’t do it without you.Take Action
