Mike Willms

Youth Worker

Mike loves youth and he loves skateboarding and his passion for both have kept him busy and happy with skateboard club ministries for the past sixteen years! For the past eight years, he has been leading YU’s North Surrey Skate Night. This club is based out of the new park at Chuck Bailey Recreation Center and works closely to outreach and build relationships with the skateboarding community and their unique subculture.

Mike’s passion is “reaching and improving the lives of inner-city teenagers in BC’s fastest-growing urban area”.

Surrey has a younger than average population in Metropolitan Vancouver, and there are too many teenagers facing insurmountable barriers. “I want to do whatever it takes to see that the teenagers we are working with have the opportunity to thrive in all aspects of their lives. I love hearing young people say ‘That was the best trip I’ve ever been on!’”.

Mike can usually be spotted at either the local skatepark, shooting hoops with youth at the Recreation Centres, or driving a van full of excited teenagers.
