Alvina Jones

Youth Worker

Alvina’s journey into youth work stems from her roots in Selkirk, MB, where she navigated the complexities of identity as an urban Indigenous youth in a low-income household. Youth For Christ Selkirk was a place that she went to at the age of 10, as a vulnerable youth and found a safe and nurturing environment that became pivotal in her life. Alvina gave her life to Christ at 14 years old. Shortly after she served as both volunteer and staff member. This experience sparked her commitment to walking alongside young people.

After high school, Alvina spent a year being transformed by Lifeteams. Her practicum placement in Abbotsford alongside James solidified her desire to work with vulnerable youth.
Over the past few years, Alvina has been actively seeking a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus within her community. This journey of intentionally walking with the Father has nurtured her faith and has had a positive impact on every aspect of her life. She firmly believes that this aspect, above all other qualifications, will be the foundation for carrying out the mission of Youth Unlimited: “seeing every young person live fully in Christ”.

Alvina graduated from Rocky Mountain College at the end of 2023 with a Diploma in Counselling – Child & Youth Care Focus.

Beyond her role as a youth worker, Alvina enjoys spending time with her husband David and daughter Cedar. She is a lover of morning lattes, photography, music, reading books, romanticizing life, baking sourdough bread, sewing, skiing, and reclaiming her Indigenous culture
