I am sleeping outside with YUnite Outside because this work is personal.
As a vulnerable Indigenous youth, I walked through Youth Unlimited’s doors at 12 years old. They did more than just support me. They believed in me, discipled me, and helped me grow into a leader. Today I get to do the same for the next generation.
I think of my mooshum who lived on East Hastings and was killed there. I think of the youth I have met in shelters and the teens I serve today who could be at risk of homelessness, addiction, and despair. Sleeping outside for one night is only a small glimpse into their reality, but it is also a statement that these young people matter.
I believe in this work because I believe in Jesus, who always moved toward those on the margins. That is what YU does every day, and that is why I am here.
When you give, you are not just donating. You are helping vulnerable youth find belonging, hope, and a future.
