Andrew Chong

As area director for Youth Unlimited North Shore, I lead a team of youth workers and we partner with local schools, government, churches, businesses, and community groups. Working in my hometown is pretty special—I grew up in Lynn Valley and I actually run a floor hockey program at Sutherland Secondary, the school I graduated from. I love bringing people together, helping young people see their potential, and creating spaces that lead to transformation.

You can usually find me at JJ Bean on Lonsdale, having tea with a young person. Sometimes, you’ll see me driving our Mobile Youth Drop-In RV (an ’82 Winnebago Brave) en route to the smoke pit at Mountainside Secondary. And on rare occasions, you might spot me borrowing the mayor’s chair in the council chambers at City Hall, interviewing youth ambassadors for CityFest.

I live in Lower Lonsdale with my wife Jennifer, an emergency nurse at Lions Gate Hospital—we have a clever little food-stealing dog named MILO. In my past life, I did some reporting for the Vancouver Canucks and was the editor of a national hockey magazine.
