Doug McKellan

Youth Worker

Doug McKellan may not have the accent for it, but he was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. After a couple of years, his family packed up and headed to Canada where they joined the Canadian Air Force, moving to a new location every couple of years. You could say Doug has literally seen Canada coast to coast.

At school, Doug discovered a love and natural talent for Physical Education. His natural ability to compete led him to earn multiple scholarships. He was breaking track records in Manitoba and soon across Canada. In 1989, he was the fastest 600m and 1000m indoor runner in Canada. Needing a break, Doug moved to BC and sought direction at a local church in Chilliwack where he soon became involved with volunteering and developed an interest in youth work.

It was one evening during a young adults event he was attending, that an announcement was shared about Youth Unlimited. The next day he had an interview, and two days after that, he was hired. He has been with YU ever since.

For Doug, YU is the perfect outlet for his natural passions and his desire to serve those around him. In his words, “Sport and outdoor activities have been a big part of my life so I thought what I know best would be a great vehicle to tell the youth about Jesus.”

In his free time, Doug is working toward becoming a fully licensed soccer coach in BC. “My hopes and dreams inspire me to be a better coach, a better youth worker and a
better Christian.”
